Waarom Maastricht Mythes?
"In de afgelopen jaren heb ik opnieuw contact gemaakt met mijn erfgoed als een echte Mestreechteneer. Langzaam maar zeker leerde ik alle luxe die de stad te bieden heeft te waarderen, terwijl ze klein genoeg blijft om altijd een bekend gezicht tegen te komen wanneer je door haar straten loopt. Maastricht is een perfecte mix van locals met een heel eigen variant van de Zuid-Nederlandse cultuur, en internationals uit alle hoeken van de wereld die hun eigen invloeden meebrengen.
Hoe meer ik schrijf, hoe meer mijn liefde voor mijn geboorteplaats naar voren komt. Ik geloof dat Maastricht dezelfde eer verdient als de oude landen van mythen. Als je door de Griekse eilanden reist, heeft elke plek zijn eigen verhaal.

"Dat is het eiland waar Apollo en Artemis werden geboren."
Maastricht is de perfecte stad om soortgelijke verhalen te creëren, verbonden met de herkenbare plekken in de stad. Iedereen die bekend is met Maastricht, weet dat de stad veel herkenbare plekken heeft met een symbolische, magische essentie. Ik wil de stad recht doen door verhalen te maken die verbonden zijn met deze plekken en die mensen kunnen delen terwijl ze samen met de stad groeien.
In When God Was A Woman (1976) stelt Merlin Stone: "Het meest interessante was het besef dat de mythen van elke cultuur die hun oorsprong verklaarden, niet altijd de oudste waren. Nieuwere versies vervingen vaak eerdere, terwijl ze plechtig verklaarden: 'Zo was het vanaf het begin der tijden.'"
Deze quote maakte me gedurfd. Als mythen werden gecreëerd, herschreven en aangepast om te voldoen aan de behoeften van hun tijd, dan is er geen reden waarom ik geen nieuwe verhalen zou kunnen verweven in het heden. Ik voel een golf van creatieve toestemming. Gewapend met deze kennis, ga ik nieuwe mythen creëren—verhalen die onze huidige realiteiten weerspiegelen maar de last van tijdloze waarheden dragen. En misschien worden ze, over honderd jaar, nog steeds verteld.
Waarom Met Mij Mijmeren?
Deelname aan dit project biedt individuen een unieke kans om zich diepgaand bezig te houden met de thema's van de vrouwelijke archetypes en bij te dragen aan een nieuwe culturele dimensie binnen Maastricht. Voor degenen die gefascineerd zijn door de wisselwerking tussen mythes en moderniteit, en die willen verkennen hoe deze tijdloze verhalen resoneren met de essentie van de stad, is dit hun kans om betrokken te raken. Door mee te doen, krijgen zij de mogelijkheid om na te denken over en bij te dragen aan een rijker begrip van vrouwelijke ervaringen, terwijl ze helpen bij het vormgeven van een eigentijds cultureel erfgoed voor Maastricht.
Dit project is bedoeld voor mensen die zich verbonden voelen met het vrouwelijke, inclusief vrouwen en iedereen die zich identificeert met deze thema's. Het is ook gericht op degenen die graag willen bijdragen aan een nieuw, cultureel betekenisvol onderdeel van Maastricht's erfgoed.
Voor degenen die gepassioneerd zijn over verhalen vertellen, het creëren van mythes, of simpelweg deel willen uitmaken van een gezamenlijke creatieve inspanning, biedt dit project een uitnodiging om mee te doen aan deze reis.

Why Maastricht Myths?
In the last few years I reconnected with my heritage as a true Mestreechteneer. I slowly learned to appreciate all the luxuries the city has to offer, while still being small enough to always run into a familiar face when you go out on her streets. Maastricht is a perfect blend of locals with a very distinct variety of the southern Dutch culture and internationals of all corners of the world who add their own influences.
The more I write, the more the love for my hometown shines through. I believe Maastricht deserves the same treatment as the ancient lands of myths. When you travel through the Greek islands, every place has their own story attached.
“This is the cave where Zeus hid from Kronos.”
“That is the island where Apollo and Artemis were born.”
Maastricht is the perfect city to create similar stories with connections to landmarks of the town. Anyone familiar with the city, knows Maastricht has many recognizable spots with a symbolic, magical essence. I want to do the city justice by crafting stories connected to these landmarks that people can share as they grow alongside the city.
In When God Was A Woman (1976) Merlin Stone states: “Most interesting was the realization that the myths of each culture that explained their origins were not always the oldest. Newer versions often superseded and displaced previous ones, while solemnly declaring that “This is as it was in the beginning of time.””
Reading this quote made me bold. If myths were created, rewritten, and reshaped to serve the needs of their time, then there’s no reason I can’t weave new narratives into the fabric of today. I feel a surge of creative permission. Armed with this knowledge, I will craft new myths— stories that reflect our current realities but carry the weight of timeless truths. And might they, in a hundred years, still be told.

For those intrigued by the interplay of myth and modernity, and who wish to explore how these timeless narratives resonate with the city's essence, this is their chance to be involved. By joining, they will have the opportunity to reflect on and enrich the understanding of feminine experiences, all while helping to shape a contemporary cultural legacy for Maastricht.
This project is designed for individuals who feel a connection to the feminine, including women and anyone who identifies with these themes. It is also intended for those eager to contribute to a fresh, culturally significant piece of Maastricht’s heritage.
For those passionate about storytelling, myth-making, or simply wanting to be part of a creative community effort, this project offers an invitation to join the journey.
